Old Crow Medicine Show to Join Grand Ole Opry

Old Crow Medicine Show have been invited to become members of the Grand Ole Opry.

According to Country Weekly, the bluegrass string band revivalists were on stage at a sold-out show in Cleveland, Ohio when their longtime friend and supporter, Marty Stuart, surprised them with the invitation.

“In 1925, there was a show started in Nashville called the Grand Ole Opry. It was founded on a traditional fiddle tune,” Stuart said. “It's been going on for 88 years. It's a great American story. Would you all consider becoming a part of this great American story and becoming Grand Ole Opry members?”

The group were discovered by bluegrass legend Doc Watson while busking outside a pharmacy in Boone, N.C. in 2000. They have since recorded four studio albums, helping to revive American roots music through a series of tours, Opry performances, and appearances on 'A Prarie Home Companion.' The group are best-known to many fans for their song 'Wagon Wheel,' which scored Darius Rucker a No. 1 hit when he covered it with Lady Antebellum.

Old Crow Medicine Show will be inducted into the Opry during a ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
