Watch New Music Videos From Kacey Musgraves, American Aquarium and More Country Artists
For country music, the themes of the week were break-ups and endings. From an apocalypse fantasy, to post-break-up loneliness, to a girlfriend who moves to Thailand, country and Americana artists explored all facets of endings this week. That doesn't mean these songs are all downers -- sometimes new-found freedom is a good thing! Read on to watch all the latest new country music videos.
Kacey Musgraves, "Space Cowboy"
Kacey Musgraves went all the way to Mexico City to film her "Space Cowboy" music video, but it's not filled with umbrella drinks and turquoise seas. Directed by Courtney Phillips, the video portrays the loneliness surrounding a breakup--dinner with an empty chair, a bed filled only by one person. But the music video also captures the relief that comes with letting go. For much of the video, Musgraves is bathed in soft and golden light and flashbacks to her former relationship are the opposite, colored in darkness and red light. Musgraves sings, "'Cause I know my place, and it ain't with you / Sunsets fade, and love does, too / We had our day in the sun / When a horse wants to run, ain't no sense in closing the gate / You can have your space, cowboy." "Space Cowboy" is from Musgraves' new album Golden Hour. -- CV
American Aquarium, "The World Is on Fire"
American Aquarium take a trip into an apocalyptic future in the video for their song "The World is on Fire." Following a pair of survivors into a bunker while the outside world is falling apart, the gritty video reflects frontman BJ Barham's bleak outlook on the political landscape of our time, but still offers an underlying message of hope: The couple eventually returns back into the outside world to continue the good fight in the face of disaster. -- LS
Trent Harmon, "You Got 'Em All"
Trent Harmon's “You Got ‘Em All” is a song personal to the singer. He wrote it in less than one hour with Justin Ebach and Jordan Minton, just a couple of days after having his heart broken. “My girlfriend just told me over the phone that she was moving to Thailand with two days notice to fulfill her dream of teaching overseas. I was so happy for her but at the same time was so heartbroken that she was literally going to be across the world from me for an indefinite amount of time,” Harmon says in a press release. In the video for "You Got 'Em All," the woman leaves Harmon to pursue her dream of being a ballerina. The video's storyline follows her dream's progression into reality. Harmon's grief-stricken face and passionate vocals make this clip heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once. -- CV
Lindi Ortega, "Liberty"
Lindi Ortega brings an abundance of Western flair in the video for the title track, "Liberty," off her eponymous concept album, which was released in March. The video, directed by Travis Nicholson, intersperses sepia-toned images of Ortega with glimpses of horses running free across the plains against a western sunset.
“I wanted to create a vibe-y, throwback video that paid tribute to old western films but offered a more modern twist,” Ortega shares about the project. "It was important to me to include horses in the video because to me wild horses represent ultimate freedom and liberation, as well as physical strength and beauty.” -- LS
