John Rich Says Rocker He Slugged ‘Had It Coming’
John Rich is talking for the first time about the bloody mishap in a Hollywood hotel room last month that left him in handcuffs. Rich stands accused of hitting rocker Jerry Montano in the face with a glass object. Police were called to the scene, where they allegedly found both the country star and rock bassist intoxicated.
"When they knocked on my hotel door, I opened it and they cuffed me," Rich told Chicago's US 99 radio station. "There had to be at least 12-13 LAPD with bullet-proof vests. And I'm like, 'Good God, what in the world is going on out here?' So I guess cowboy hats really do flip 'em out out there. [laughs]"
Montano did not press charges. He insisted at the scene that it was just a drunken accident, and even said he was still a fan of Rich.
"Of course he didn't [press charges]," Rich boasted, "because he knows what would've happened then. Then I'd really get nasty!"
But Montano changed his tune a few weeks after the incident, filing a lawsuit against Rich, seeking compensation for his injuries. Turns out, the two aren't exactly friends after all.
"Amarillo, Texas cowboy goes to West Hollywood -- It ain't exactly my neck of the woods," Rich explained. "And that guy had it coming."
