Brett Eldredge Announces Sophomore Record
Brett Eldredge has announced his sophomore record, Illinois.
The CMA Awards New Artist of the Year first revealed the news of his second album on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday (June 1). The disc will drop on Sept. 11.
"So out of my mind pumped to tell ya my second album "ILLINOIS" will come out on September 11th!!!" Eldredge later shared on Twitter.
The title is a nod to Eldredge's home state; the singer was raised in the small town of Paris, Ill., which is approximately 180 miles south of Chicago and home to about 9,000 people. Eldredge is also a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
“I have a lot of friends who will be there for life,” Eldredge says. “I know a lot of people who love the town enough that they never have a reason to leave. There are cornfields and cow pastures and a lake right in the middle. It never changes. And that’s what I love about it. I love going back. It gives me a sense of normalcy in the crazy world I live in, where I’m traveling so much.”
The Midwesterner-turned-Nashvillian released the record's first single, "Lose My Mind," and its music video, at the end of April. The track likely resonates with anyone who's felt a little crazy in a relationship, obsessing over a significant other because you just can't get enough.
“The day we wrote “Lose My Mind,” I had this groove in my head that kept me awake the night before,” Eldredge says. “This groove was driving me nuts. And a relationship can be like that too, when a person completely takes control of your thoughts, and you can’t do anything but think about them. It drives you completely crazy and makes you lose your mind.”
Illinois is the follow-up album to Eldredge’s 2013 debut project, Bring You Back, which garnered him three consecutive No. 1 songs, “Don’t Ya,” “Beat of the Music” and “Mean to Me.”
