Sheryl Crow is following up her posthumous duet with Johnny Cash, "Redemption Day," with another team-up of interest to country and roots music fans. "Live Wire" features blues-rock legend Bonnie Raitt and gospel and soul singer-turned-Americana godmother Mavis Staples.

"Live Wire" brings listeners an ideal marriage of Crow's catchy pop hooks and Raitt's musical grit, with Staples shouting "hallelujah" throughout her friends' secular rock sermon. Readers can press play above to hear the new song.

“Those two ladies may as well be sisters from a different mother,” Crow tells Entertainment Weekly about her collaborators. “First of all, they’re very close, and Mavis has inspired Bonnie in so many ways. And both those women have been a huge inspiration for me. I saw Bonnie when I was 13, and seeing a woman playing the slide guitar basically set me on the course. I have not been able to play slide, but I wouldn’t be playing the guitar without her. And I was a giant fan of [the legendary Band concert film] The Last Waltz, and so I got turned onto the Staple Singers through that documentary. There’s just no other voice like Mavis Staples.”

Both "Live Wire" and "Redemption Day" will appear on Crow's forthcoming duets album, Threads, along with tracks featuring Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Maren Morris. The project may be Crow's last album, with the singer teasing her own version of Blake Shelton's recent singles-only game plan.

"It takes a lot of time and money and energy to create a fully artistic statement with a beginning, a middle and end," Crow tells Nashville Public Radio. "And, you know, you hope you have a song that lands on a playlist somewhere. People just don't listen to albums anymore. So I feel like this is a good one to go out on. And in the future, when I write something I feel like needs to be put out, we'll just put it out. We won't wait to make a whole album."

Threads is due out this summer on Big Machine Label Group.
