Miranda Lambert promised that her new song "Locomotive" is a mix of country and punk rock, and the recorded version of the song delivers just that. The country star shared the studio version of the track -- which she debuted at CMA Fest 2019 in early June -- on Thursday morning (July 18).

The fiery "Locomotive" -- written by Lambert, Ashley Monroe and K.S. Rhodes -- is a bold declaration of not caring much what the world thinks about you -- especially when there's a good man who "gives me wings," as the song's chorus goes, by your side. "'Cause I'm sweet tea sippin' / On my front porch sittin' / While my hubby fries chicken / And I'm pickin' these strings," Lambert sings.

Lambert has hinted that her lengthy break in between albums -- during which she toured, recorded and released a new Pistol Annies record, got married and, in her words, "got to live life and just be a person for a while" -- will mean bold new music. “I would call it old Miranda, but a Miranda at a whole new level, if that makes any sense. It’s not going to be love song overload or anything like that," she explains. She tells Billboard that spending time in New York City with her new husband, NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin, and "be[ing] on a huge rock 'n' roll kick" has influenced the project.

"The other day, I took myself on a date. My husband was busy and so I went and had dinner and then went to the Red Lion to hear a rock cover band and got a few drinks. It was awesome," Lambert recounts. "I love that about that city -- you can kind of just walk down the street and stumble into somewhere that has something amazing happening. I love the energy of that city and just the inspiration you can get if you look for it."

On Thursday, Lambert also shared "It All Comes Out in the Wash," her first single from a forthcoming new album. The follow-up to her 2016 record The Weight of These Wings will arrive this fall, according to Lambert herself. She produced her new project with Jay Joyce rather than her longtime go-to, Frank Liddell.

"It was a change, but I wanted to go in a different direction for this one than I have in the past because I feel like I was in a new place," Lambert says. "Jay and I had some new chemistry. Sometimes you have to change it up."

Lambert will celebrate her new music with a new iteration of her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour. The all-female trek will begin on Sept. 13 in Uncasville, Conn., and is scheduled to run through Nov. 23, when it will wrap up in Greensboro, N.C. Throughout the tour, Lambert will switch up her lineup of special guests: Maren Morris, Elle King, the Pistol AnniesTenille TownesAshley McBryde and Caylee Hammack are all scheduled to appear at various shows.
