Miranda Lambert brought fresh material to her 2019 CMA Fest performance at Nissan Stadium, debuting what she described as her "country punk-rock" new song, "Locomotive," during her solo set. Before taking the stage, Lambert told ET that she's gearing up to release her next album after taking time off following the release of 2016's The Weight of These Wings.

"I took a good break and I got to live life and just be a person for a while," the singer explains. "Just being off the road, I took my time writing and enjoyed it instead of rushing like we always do."

Having time to decompress is an important part of keeping her "fire," Lambert goes on to say. "Because sometimes you get tired, you know? I've been doing this since I was 17. So, sometimes you get tired, but then I'm like, 'Now I have more energy than ever.' My fire is back and and I still feel like the girl that was at "The House That Built Me" era [in 2010]," she adds.

Lambert will put that energy to good use delivering the next batch of songs. "It's fun! I'm finishing the record right now and it's just high energy -- it's fun lyrics, it's clever, it's a lot of girl anthems," she continues.

There will be ample opportunities for onstage "girl anthem" moments during the all-female 2019 return of Lambert's Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour, which kicks off in September and will feature a lineup of all-star guests including Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Tenille Townes and more.
