LeAnn Rimes goes techno? Hard to believe, and what's even harder to believe is that Dr. Ralph Stanley has, too! But the end result is for a pretty cool project. The country-pop songbird and bluegrass legend have teamed up with electro/dance mogul Pretty Lights for a cover of the folk classic, 'Wayfaring Stranger,' most famously recorded by Burl Ives but also covered by literally hundreds of artists from Bill Monroe and Alison Krauss to Jack White and Michael Franti.

On the new collaboration, Pretty Lights lays on the distortion over his own beats, heavy guitar riffs and Dr. Stanley's vocals. LeAnn, meanwhile, is almost indistinguishable, as her voice is modulated so high that she has a Wanda Jackson-like tone. (Listen to the song in the video player below.)

"I make all kinds of different styles but I just try to keep the soul, the flavor, the feeling in it, whatever it is," Pretty Lights tells our sister site, Spinner. "That's the priority. That's the kind of power that I'm trying to capture."

The song is featured on 'Re:Generation,' a documentary that features five DJs working in unfamiliar genres, such as R&B, jazz and classical. The film, directed by Amir Bar-Lev ('The Tillman Story') is due out in early 2012, and will also include Erykah Badu, members of the Doors, Mark Ronson, Mos Def, Martha Reeves, the Crystal Method and Skrillex.
