Sadler Vaden, a former member of Atlanta rock legends Drivin' N Cryin' and a current guitarist with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, honored his roots during the 2019 Camayo Cruise by covering an Allman Brothers Band deep cut.

The high seas equivalent of a front-porch jam session quickly broke out, once Vaden, Isbell and the rest of the 400 Unit were joined onstage by dobro master Jerry Douglas and former Greg Allman keyboardist Peter Levin. Together, the group embarked upon an extended version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

The Dickey Betts-penned, jazz-infused instrumental first appeared on the Allmans' 1970 album, Idlewild South. A definitive, 13-plus minute free-form jam of the track appeared the following year, when the group released their seminal live album At Fillmore East.

With two of Americana's best guitarslingers and a bluegrass legend at the forefront, the impromptu group shared its own take on the Allmans' extended live cut. Fortunately for fans back on dry land, a shipmate filmed the star-studded tribute to Capricorn Records' heyday. Press play above to watch the clip for yourself.

The 12th annual Americana and roots-themed cruise was held Feb. 10-17 and featured Dawes, Emmylou Harris, Mary Gauthier and other headliners. Atlanta-based company Sixthman are responsible for booking both Cayamo and the annual Outlaw Country Cruise.

It's the first touchstone of what should be another busy year for Isbell and his band. Their tour itinerary includes a month-long co-headlining jaunt with Father John Misty.
