Blake Shelton’s ‘Turnin’ Me On’ Is All About Gwen Stefani [LISTEN]
Blake Shelton co-wrote one song on his newest album, Texoma Shore, and it's now his new single. Readers can press play above to hear "Turnin' Me On," which will be going for adds at country radio on July 30.
"Turnin' Me On" features a subtle reference to Shelton's girlfriend, Gwen Stefani. The song was written by Shelton, Jessi Alexander and Josh Osborne, and includes the lyric "She's Revlon red in the blackest night," a reference to Stefani's work with the Revlon cosmetics brand (and her penchant for red lip color).
In a press release, Shelton explains that he began writing "Turnin' Me On" in 2017, during some downtime on his tour bus. He brought Alexander and Osborne in to help him finesse the idea.
“I was [on my bus] alone, and I had my guitar, started playing a little melody that I was hearing in my head, and next thing you know, I started writing a song. I wrote a verse, then I wrote a chorus, then I realized it was going somewhere, and I felt good about it," Shelton says. "I’m super proud of it -- and it’s not hard to figure out who this song is about.”
Texoma Shore, released in November of 2017, followed Shelton's 2016 album If I'm Honest.
"At this point in my career, it’s always good for me to try something different, with different sounds, and I think you'll hear hints of that on this record," Shelton says of the project. "I've explored about every part of country music you can explore, and it seems like I always keep coming back to my roots, which is traditional country music."
