Kip Moore, Lauren Alaina and More Set for 2017 Georgia on My Mind Benefit Concert
Kip Moore and Lauren Alaina are among the country artists in the lineup for the 2017 Georgia on My Mind concert, which benefits the Georgia Music Foundation. The event is presented by Jameson Irish Whiskey and hosted by Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, who collectively make up the Peach Pickers.
Akins, Davidson and Hayslip are expected to perform at the Georgia on My Mind benefit alongside a number of fellow Georgia natives: Moore, Alaina, Chris Janson, Michael Ray and more. The show, scheduled for May 16, will bring the sounds of the Peach State to Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
“This is as close to a Georgia homecoming as you are going to get in Tennessee,” Davidson says (via Sounds Like Nashville). “The popularity and success of this event is so rewarding because it celebrates our homegrown talent and allows us to give back to deserving music education programs.”
The Georgia Music Foundation will use the funds raised at the 2017 Georgia on My Mind concert for music education programs. The past three annual Georgia on My Mind shows have brought in more than $150,000 for the foundation.
The Peach Pickers have penned tracks for some of country music's biggest names, including Luke Bryan (“I Don’t Want This Night to End”), Blake Shelton (“All About Tonight”) and Joe Nichols (“Gimmie That Girl”). All three members hail from Georgia and use their home state's musical history as a big influence in their careers.
“Georgia has such a different mix of music … And so, I think when you just hear all of that music constantly, you can’t help but love all of it, and it comes out in your music ...,” Akins tells The Boot. “We’ve been able to keep up with whatever direction country music is turning because we grew up loving all that music anyway. If country’s hip-hop for a little while, we can do that because we love hip-hop. If country’s bluesy for a little while, we can do that because we love blues. We just love all types of music, so we can kind of twist and turn whichever way the wind’s blowing.”
