William Michael Morgan and Jennifer Wayne have called off their engagement. The couple announced the news in a statement on social media on Friday afternoon (April 7).

In a message shared on Morgan's Facebook page and Wayne's Twitter account, the couple says that they "have called off our engagement" after "[coming] to the mutual agreement that this is what’s best for both of us right now."

"Thank you for your support and respecting our privacy during this time," the statement concludes.

Surprising and Sad Country Star Splits

Wayne, a granddaughter of the Academy Award-winning actor John Wayne, and Morgan were engaged for about three months. The two rising stars -- him a solo artist, her a member of the trio Runaway June -- got engaged at the end of December. The two first met at a country music festival in Chicago. Morgan has a daughter, Presley, who was born last March.

Runaway June are promoting their first single, “Lipstick;” the song comes from their upcoming debut album on Wheelhouse Records, an imprint of Broken Bow. Morgan, meanwhile, earned his first No. 1 single in 2016; that song, “I Met a Girl,” comes from his debut album, Vinyl, released on Warner Bros. Records.
