The Band Perry Drop ‘Stay in the Dark’, Announce New Album [WATCH]
The Band Perry have announced a brand-new single, "Stay in the Dark," and revealed plans for a forthcoming new album -- "our very first pop album," the band says -- called My Bad Imagination.
Readers can press play below to hear "Stay in the Dark;" TBP have performed the track live at recent shows (the video is from a show in August of 2016). The song is available for download on iTunes and Amazon.
"In the literal sense, "Stay in the Dark" is about getting close to the one you love, closing the curtains and escaping from the wilds of the world together for the night," says Reid Perry in a press release. "For us, though, it has so many meanings, and we're looking forward to see how our fans find themselves in it."
Adds Neil Perry, "Creatively, "Stay in the Dark" brings forward some of the elements we've always been known for as the Band Perry, while introducing our fans to all the new sounds we've been working with."
On Thursday, after wiping their social media accounts (again), the Perrys revealed on social media their plans to drop "Stay in the Dark," and shared a few details of their upcoming album, in a letter to their fans.
"We've made an album for you. Creating it has been the most exciting thing we've ever done. It's led us to disrupt everything that was comfortable and familiar to us a short year ago," the Band Perry write. "If there's one thing we've learned in making it it's this -- being yourself matters. It matters even when not everyone agrees that you should be or understands why it's important that you are."
Artists Who Unexpectedly "Went Country"
The Band Perry are signed to a joint deal with Interscope Records and Universal Music Nashville, which they announced in May of 2016; prior to that, they parted ways with their previous label, Big Machine, in March. Prior to departing from BMLG, the Perrys had announced a new album, Heart + Beat, but since then, no additional details about the record have been revealed.
"As we've been thinking about our transition from our last two albums to this one, I've interpreted lyrics more as metaphor, with 'I just want to stay in the dark' meaning I want to stay romantic, imaginative and naïve," says Kimberly Perry. "I want to believe in what I can't see. I want to keep walking forward. Chances and bold moves are always the ones that carry you the furthest in life -- and for most of us we've got to ignore the naysayers and just take the leap."
In August, when TBP revealed their most recent single, "Comeback Kid," they denied the rumors their new record deal and recent poppy singles meant that they were "going pop;" however, in their Thursday night note, the sibling trio specifically calls My Bad Imagination a pop album, before concluding, "Thank you for your love, your patience, and for your trust. Come with us."
The Band Perry are scheduled to perform at the Taste of the NFL Party With a Purpose on Saturday night (Feb. 4). The event will take place in Houston, Texas, as part of pre-Super Bowl LI festivities.
