The Band Perry Sign Joint Deal With Interscope Records, Universal Music Nashville
The Band Perry's move to pop music has taken a big step forward: The sibling trio has signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and Universal Music Nashville.
Muke Dungan at Universal Nashville and John Janick at Interscope explained the joint venture to Hits Daily Double following an incorrect report from Billboard. That story said that the Perrys would be working with executives in Interscope's Los Angeles office but that select singles would be handled by UMG Nashville; rather, both labels will "follow the band's creative lead," HDD explains.
"This is a band that wants to stretch," Dungan says, with Janick adding, "[Interscope] has always blurred the [genre and format] lines, in terms of collaborations, roster and partnerships. At the end of the day it’s about great music, great artistry and great people. The Band Perry ticks all those boxes for us.”
Interscope and Universal Music Nashville are both part of the Universal Music Group parent company.
After releasing their first two albums with Big Machine Label Group, the Band Perry announced in March that they and BMLG had parted ways. Both the band and the label commented that the split was mutually agreed upon and amicable.
“We and Big Machine Label Group have made a mutual decision to bring our working relationship to a close,” the Perry siblings said at the time. “We are grateful for six years of the big moments and great strides we made with our BMLG family and will carry that foundation forward with us as we begin the next leg of our journey.”
Last August, TBP released a pop-heavy single, “Live Forever,” which didn’t fare particularly well at country radio. In October, the band announced a new album, Heart + Beat, but since then, no additional details about the record have been revealed. According to Billboard, the Perrys are still working on that project, which will include some material previously crafted during their days on BMLG's Republic Nashville.
This summer, "Live Forever" will serve as Team USA’s official song for the Summer Olympics. The Band Perry also have some upcoming tour dates on their calendar. Visit their official website for details.
