Tanya Tucker’s ‘The Wheels of Laredo’ Is Her First New Song in 17 Years [LISTEN]

For the first time since 2002, Tanya Tucker has new music to share. Readers can press play above to hear "The Wheels of Laredo," the first song from the '70s country icon's brand-new album.

Tucker's new song is sparse: A light acoustic guitar accompanies her, while an organ plays quietly in the background. Brandi Carlile and her collaborators Phil and Tim Hanseroth, who wrote "The Wheels of Laredo," add gospel choir-style harmonies.

The music video for "The Wheels of Laredo" finds Tucker spending a day caring for and riding horses. Directed by Myriam Santos, the clip ends with a call-out to a horse rescue organization, Redemption Road Rescue, located in Jackson, Tenn.

According to a press email, the album on which "The Wheels of Laredo" appears, While I'm Livin', is due out on Aug. 23, via Fantasy Records / Concord. The project's first single, "Hard Luck," is "coming soon."

While I'm Livin' will be Tucker's first album for Fantasy Records, and her first new music since 2002's Tanya. Carlile and Shooter Jennings produced the record, while Carlile and the Hanseroths wrote most of its songs.

“It’s a musical biography of sorts, about Tanya’s real life and the places she’s seen," Carlile explains, "and it’s narrated by the greatest country and western singer this side of Johnny Cash.”
