Millions of fans are anxiously awaiting the first album from Scotty McCreery, and the 'American Idol' winner is working tirelessly to give them just what they want to hear.

"Right now, we are still in the process of picking songs and recording songs and laying down vocals," Scotty dishes to Yahoo. "The process is going really well and I'm excited about it." On the inclusion of self-penned material for the disc, Scotty explains, "Not on this album. Hopefully on the next couple albums. I'm writing, but not quick enough to get it on the album," he admits. "I've been so busy after the show that I haven't been able to sit on the couch and relax."

Despite his demanding schedule, the North Carolina native has been able to track and record five songs for the album. "We have a couple of really good songs that speak to small town America," he says. "There's a love song ... when we heard the demo, my mom started crying. It touched her."

The singer gets sentimental on his current single, 'I Love You This Big,' which currently sits at No. 19 on Billboard's Country Songs chart. His full-length debut album is expected later this year. While he's undoubtedly optimistic about the project, Scotty also sees it as somewhat of a challenge.

"Teen males have never really made it in country music, so it's going to be tough for me," he tells The Boot. "I've talked to people who've laid out a game plan, but there's no formula for me. We can't go by what other guys are doing who are 40 years old in this industry. We have to go by something totally new and hope it works. I'm looking forward to seeing how the country world embraces a teen male country singer."
