Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins is joining forces with Sarah Jarosz and Aofie O'Donovan to release a 7" record this spring.

The project is set for release via Sugar Hill Records and Yep Roc Records on May 8, and it brings the three artists together on two songs: a cover of John Hiatt’s “Crossing Muddy Waters" and an a cappella version of Andy Stroud's "Be My Husband."

The three women have each built individual careers as solo artists and in other groups, but their collaboration brings out something new from each of them for their respective fans.

“One thing I’m really excited about in terms of this particular group of voices is that each individual has a lot more range than people might think,” O’Donovan says. “It’s going to be fun experimenting with different dynamic and harmonic possibilities.”

The trio joined forces for an impromptu performance at the 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which led them to begin kicking around the idea of a full-on collaboration.

“I respect Sarah and Aoife’s instrumental and vocal musicianship so much,” Watkins says. “Writing, arranging, every time we play together, we are learning how to be a supportive, explosive, good band. That’s very satisfying.”

Prior to the release of the record, the trio will embark on a European leg of their I'm With Her Tour, with dates scheduled in the U.K., Sweden, Spain and Ireland beginning on April 18 and running through May 5. They also have select dates scheduled in the U.S., beginning with appearances on A Prairie Home Companion on May 22 and 23 in Vienna, Va.

The album is available for pre-order via ImWithHer.com. Listen to "Crossing Muddy Waters" below.
