Maren Morris Enlists Hozier for New Version of ‘The Bones’ [LISTEN]
Morris handles the first verse and chorus of "The Bones" solo, but Hozier takes lead on the second verse, and he and Morris harmonize throughout the rest of the song. Both artists have instantly recognizable voices, but neither overpowers the other.
Fans first got a clue about Morris and Hozier's plans on Wednesday (Oct. 2), when Hozier posted a brief video of himself covering "The Bones" to Twitter and Morris retweeted the clip with a compliment. "This is absolutely stunning," she wrote.
"The Bones" is Morris' current single, following her sophomore album's title track, "Girl," which hit No. 1 on the country charts. Written by Morris, Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz, the song is a reflection on sturdy relationships: No matter what else is going on around it, the people in that partnership can rely on each other, and know that nothing can shake them.
Morris' second album, Girl, was released in March; she co-wrote all 14 songs on the project. The record earned Morris a number of 2019 CMA Awards nominations, including for Female Vocalist of the Year. Girl is nominated for Album of the Year, while its title track is up for Song of the Year, Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year; "All My Favorite People," a collaboration with Brothers Osborne, is among the Musical Event of the Year nominees as well.
Hozier (full name: Andrew John Hozier-Byrne) is a native of Ireland. He released his self-titled debut album in 2014 to critical acclaim and commercial success, and his debut single, "Take Me to Church," was nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards. His sophomore album, Wasteland, Baby!, arrived in March.
