This past winter, Luke Bryan and his wife Caroline took in the singer's nephew, 13-year-old Til Cheshire, after the boy's father and Bryan's brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, unexpectedly passed away. Now, Bryan is opening up about life with his expanded family.

The "Kick the Dust Up" hitmaker appeared on Ellen on Tuesday (May 19) to talk about the changes.

“Now I have my 7-year-old boy, Bo, and Tate, who’s 4, and now we have my 13-year-old nephew, Til," Bryan says. Though the couple's life has changed dramatically, it's especially different for Caroline, who is home with the boys.

"My wife is just running around," he says. "It’s baseball, getting them to baseball."

Bryan admits that although "you can kind of control a 7-year-old," it's much different with a teenager.

“You’re not fooling a 13-year-old,” he tells Ellen Degeneres. “But we love it. We feel honored that we are so blessed to take him in. He has two older sisters, too, so now I’m kind of like, I've gotta do the whole ‘scare whoever, the boys that they are talking to.’ I have to play that role, too.”

It's hard to imagine Bryan, with his fun-loving personality, scaring any boys away, but he takes his father and uncle duties seriously. Bryan has admitted before that although taking in a 13-year-old has not been easy, he and Caroline are focused on staying positive and trucking through the difficulties.

“We feel like if we just stay positive through this, maybe we’ll be a positive inspiration for people that had these things happen to ‘em,” Bryan says. “You just have to plow on and play the hand that’s dealt."

Ben Lee Chesire passed away late last November. He was married to Bryan's late sister, Kelly, who passed away unexplained in 2007. Tragedy has struck Bryan's family numerous times, as his brother was killed in 1996.

The country star recently announced a brand-new album, Kill the Lights set to be released on Aug. 7.
