Kenny Chesney’s Looking for Connection in ‘Tip of My Tongue’ [LISTEN]
Kenny Chesney's brand-new single, "Tip of My Tongue," is a song about connection, the country star says. Readers can press play above to hear the track, which debuted on Friday (July 12).
"Tip of My Tongue" finds Chesney professing love: "Baby, I am under your control," he sings over a steady beat, each verse quiet, building to a lush chorus.
"It's a long way down to where I wanna go / It's a long way down to the center of your soul / It's a long way down, and I'm a loaded gun," Chesney sings in the chorus of "Tip of My Tongue," each time completing an echo-y call and response. "But I love you salt and sugar on the tip of my tongue."
Chesney co-wrote "Tip of My Tongue" with pop star Ed Sheeran and well-known songwriter Ross Copperman. The country star says he'd had the idea for the song "written down for a while, but I didn't really know where to take it." His co-writers helped him figure it out.
"It is an authentic story in my life and idea in my life, about connection," Chesney explains. "Once we got into the idea of the song and started exploring, the song, in a lot of ways, wrote itself."
"Tip of My Tongue" is Chesney's first single from a forthcoming new album, co-produced by Buddy Cannon. Chesney signed with Warner Music Nashville in early 2018, after more than two decades with Sony Music Nashville. His first album with the label, Songs for the Saints, dropped in July.
