Kenny Chesney sets sail for smoother waters in his new single, "Better Boat." Featuring singer-songwriter Mindy Smith, the mellow, acoustic anthem spins a tale of lessons learned through weathering the storms of life; press play above to listen to the tune.

"I breathe in / I breathe out / Got friends to call who let me talk it out / What ain't workin' / What's still hurtin' / All the things I feel like cussin' out," Chesney sings in "Better Boat." "Now and then I let it go / I ride the waves I can't control / I'm learning how to build a better boat."

Inspired by a real-life storm, Chesney discovered "Better Boat" in the wake of the devastation that Hurricane Irma wrought on his beloved Virgin Islands, including St. John, the island Chesney has called home for many years. While his entire Songs for the Saints album was born out of the tragedy, this song in particular is the one that Chesney says hits home the most.

“Of all the songs on there, "Better Boat," I think, really captures the emotion of that moment – and the months following,” Chesney says in a press release. “There’s an acceptance it takes to face those challenges and that uncertainty … the lyric has that line, ‘I ride the waves I can’t control …’ And that’s exactly how this was, and in some ways, still is.”

Written by Travis Meadows and Liz Rose, "Better Boat" opens up with a guitar part from the legendary musician and songwriter Mac McAnally. Its the second single from Chesney's newest album, Songs for the Saints, released on July 27; the record's first single, "Get Along," recently hit No. 1.

Proceeds from Songs for the Saints benefit Chesney's Love for Love City Foundation, dedicated to relief efforts in the Virgin Islands.
