Jennifer Wayne, one-third of the up-and-coming country trio Runaway June, says that her engagement to fellow rising star William Michael Morgan over the holidays came as a big surprise; in fact, Wayne admits that she kept inadvertently foiling her now-fiance's plans! In a recent interview, the singer shared a few details of the special moment.

"I had no idea that it was coming, so it was a major shock. I kept ruining it for him the entire night, because I had no idea," Wayne tells The Boot. "And so, he wanted to go to a nice dinner, and I was like, ‘No, let’s just stay in and order room service,’ because I didn’t want to be away from my dogs. He had a bottle of Dom Perignon, and he was like, ‘We’re going to open it tonight,’ and I was like, ‘No! Let’s wait for New Year’s.’"

Wayne says that she reluctantly agreed to a dinner out of the room -- but she turned down Morgan's request for a walk on the beach in favor of returning to her beloved pets.

"We had this cute little patio out[side of our room], and he asked me, and I kind of knew it was coming at that point," Wayne recalls. "I was in shock, because I wasn’t expecting it; I said, ‘You said spring or summer!’ so I even ruined it then. He was so flustered because I kept ruining it for him. So he asked me, and I was like, ‘You didn’t get down on one knee!' ...

"Poor guy," Wayne adds. "I put him through the ringer."

Wayne says she's "still in shock," and that her new status as a fiancee "hasn't really sunk in yet," so it should come as no surprise that she and Morgan haven't set a wedding date just yet. Instead, they're planning on enjoying their engagement for a few months before making any plans.

Runaway June recently released their first single, "Lipstick;" the song comes from their upcoming debut album on Wheelhouse Records, an imprint of Broken Bow. Meanwhile, in 2016, Morgan earned his first No. 1 single with "I Met a Girl," from his debut album, Vinyl, released on Warner Bros. Records.
