Jake Owen Releases Surprise New Song, ‘Something to Ride To’ [LISTEN]
On the heels of releasing his latest single, "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)," on Wednesday (Feb. 28), Jake Owen has offered up yet another new song. Readers can press play above to listen to the moody and vulnerable "Something to Ride To."
Written by Corey Crowder, Josh Miller and Florida Georgia Line's own Tyler Hubbard, the song describes a late-night drive away from a failed relationship, to the soundtrack of a radio that, hopefully, will distract from the pain of a breakup with songs that are catchy and upbeat: Something, as the chorus goes, "to ride to."
"And all I really need is a catchy hook / No poetic words from a fancy book / No lines about love and forever / Just something that'll make you feel better," Owen sings in the first verse of the song.
"This is the most exciting Wednesday I've had in a long time!" Owen said on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
In addition to the surprise release of "Something to Ride To," the singer also shared "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)," his first single on Big Loud Records after signing with the label last November. Prior to inking that deal, Owen spent over a decade at RCA Nashville, released five studio albums and topped charts with hits such as "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," "Alone With You" and "Anywhere With You."
"Something to Ride To" isn't the first time Owen has collaborated with Hubbard, who is one half of the duo Florida Georgia Line as well as Owen's brand-new labelmate. He released a collaboration with the duo, called "Summer Jam," in 2012.
Owen also announced recently that he plans to launch his Life's Whatcha Make It Tour this May. The singer is set to bring Chris Janson and Jordan Davis out on the road with him, and the trek will extend through September.
