George Strait Talks Up New Album, Shares Two New Songs at Las Vegas Concert [WATCH]
George Strait is working on a new album -- and that means he's got new songs to share. During his weekend concerts in Las Vegas, Nev. (Dec. 7 and 8), the King of Country Music unveiled two brand-new tracks to his fans.
Readers can press play above to watch Strait's performance of "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar." Strait says that he co-penned the song with his son Bubba and tunesmith Dean Dillon; they wrote the track tired, the country legend says, after the younger Strait tossed out a couldn't-pass-it-up idea near the very end of a writing session.
Below, listeners can hear "God and Country Music," another of Strait's new tracks. Slower and more lonesome-sounding than "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar," the song name-drops famous country songs and artists to make the point that both God and country music "never change."
"You find 'em when you need 'em," Strait sings in "God and Country Music." "Come hell or high water, there's two things still worth savin' / God and country music."
During his weekend shows at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena -- part of his Strait to Vegas residency -- Strait also performed his recently released song "Codigo." The song is an ode to good drinks and even better company, also co-written by Strait, his son Bubba and Dillon.
Strait's new album will be called Honky Tonk Time Machine, he told his Las Vegas crowd. It will be his first disc of new material since 2015's Cold Beer Conversation. In 2016, Strait released a greatest hits package, Strait Out of the Box: Part 2.
Since concluding his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour in 2014 -- which was billed as his farewell tour -- non-Vegas shows have been a relatively rare occurrence for Strait; however, in November he announced a 2019 stop in Atlanta, Ga., with a bill that also includes Chris Stapleton, Chris Janson and Ashley McBryde. In addition to more Las Vegas residency dates, Strait has also booked a few additional non-Vegas shows for 2019.
