Country Newcomer Dee White Enlists Ashley McBryde for ‘Road That Goes Both Ways’ [LISTEN]
Country newcomer Dee White tapped the talented Ashley McBryde for one of the songs on his debut album, "Road That Goes Both Ways." Readers can press play above to listen to the gentle track.
White opens the first verse of "Road That Goes Both Ways," cautioning, "I can say that I love you / 'Cause I mean it, I really do / But right now I'm not into staying up late / And worrying over you." There's a push and pull at play, he notes: "Freedom is such a wonderful thing / So who am I to say / 'Cause the road that we're on is the one that we chose / And it goes both ways."
McBryde chimes in during the second verse, which blends into rich harmonies between the two: "We got history / Still got chemistry / It's very plain to see / When I'm with you, there's no place that I'd rather be," she sings. "I know your mind / It's genuine, and there's nothing more to say / Except the road that we're on is the one that we chose / And it goes both ways."
McBryde and White toured together in 2018, with the newbie opening for McBryde on her Girl Going Nowhere Tour. "This guy has a voice like if Dwight Yoakam and Ronnie Milsap had a baby. I love everything about him," she said of White ahead of the trek. "This is a voice that country music has been missing, and we have to have it."
"Road That Goes Both Ways" comes from White's Southern Gentleman, released on March 1. The early-20s Alabama native also enlisted Alison Krauss for the project, which was produced by Dan Auerbach and released via his Easy Eye Sound and Warner Music Nashville.
White, who is one of The Boot's 2019 Artists to Watch, has attracted an impressive set of fans, both famous and otherwise, with his mellow Southern style. He also counts Brothers Osborne among his admirers.
