Chris Young TV Favorites Include Musical Shows

Chris Young is among millions of viewers who tuned in last night (Dec. 18) to see Blake Shelton's teammate, Cassadee Pope, win the reality TV talent show, "The Voice." Chris, who won "Nashville Star" in 2006, admits "The Voice" is the only televised singing competition he actually enjoys.

"I love how they've set that show up," he told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "One of the things that TV does for an artist, especially when it's something like that is, it provides you a platform. People see you, they know what your name is. After the show's over, it's up to you to move on with that, and continue to build a little career. But it's a great opportunity to get your name out there, and I really do love the way they've done 'The Voice.' That show is great."

The "I Can Take It From There" singer, who is busy crossing the country on his Liquid Neon tour, also carves out time to watch the new TV drama, "Nashville." "I actually really like the show," the Tennessee native admits. "You always get nervous anytime somebody wants to do a show in your hometown, but I don't think that would change even if it wasn't a music town. Obviously being the home of country music, all of the people that are musicians are nervous."

The 27-year-old, who grew up just outside of Nashville, is impressed with the image the show gives Music City. "I love how they portray what the city looks like," he adds. "They use some really great shots. Also, they've found a way to have music, have both original songs in the show that they've done, as well as showcase some of the other stuff that's popular and on the charts."

Chris will kick off the 2013 leg of his Liquid Neon tour with a sold-out show at Joe's Bar in Chicago. The trek includes opening acts Thomas Rhett and Joanna Smith and makes stops in Wisconsin, Florida and Oklahoma. See a list of upcoming shows here.
