Carrie Underwood Hopes for Unity in New Single ‘Love Wins’ [LISTEN]
Carrie Underwood just wants everyone to love each other. The country superstar's new single "Love Wins" is a passionate cry for unity through compassion and understanding; readers can press play above to hear the song.
The 10th song on Underwood's forthcoming new album, Cry Pretty, "Love Wins" was co-written by Underwood, David Garcia and Brett James. Underwood tells Taste of Country that the song isn't "trying to speak negatively about our world," but rather to "be hopeful and to maybe make somebody stop and think about" how our differences are what make us unique, not what make us bad.
"I feel like we get really caught up in surface things, and I feel like, in this world, we're quick to get angry at each other," Underwood says. "I personally think that we're all different for a reason. I feel like if you just sit down and talk to somebody who's not like you and keep it calm, we can all learn from each other."
In "Love Wins," Underwood sings, "Politics and prejudice / How the hell'd it ever come to this? / Everybody's gotta pick a side / It don't matter if you're wrong or right ... But I hold on to hope, and I won't let go / 'Cause I believe you and me are sisters and brothers / And I believe we're made to be here for each other ... I believe, in the end, love wins."
It's a message that Underwood is trying to instill in her son, Isaiah. The singer says she is raising him "to be around people that don't think like he does," to form his own opinions and "to talk to people and come to people with love."
"Love Wins" is one of 13 songs on Cry Pretty, which was co-produced by Garcia and Underwood. The album is due out on Sept. 14.
