One of the three major performance rights organizations, SESAC, handed out awards to some of Nashville's biggest names on Sunday night (Nov. 1), during the organization's annual Nashville Music Awards.

Zac Brown, along with Niko Moon and Wyatt Durrette, earned Song of the Year honors, for "Homegrown." The song was the lead single off of the Zac Brown Band's newest album, Jekyll + Hyde.

"To be able to do this for a living amazes me still," Durrette says (quote via the Tennessean). "Watching the crowds and talking to people about how the songs touched them in some way, made them feel happy or made them feel not alone in a bad situation, it's why I fell in love with music to begin with."

The three also earned a Country Performance Activity Award, which honors the most-performed songs of the year, for the tune, and Brown and Moon earned another for "Loving You Easy," also off Jekyll + Hyde.

Hillary Scott, meanwhile, earned three Country Performance Activity Awards, for three Lady Antebellum songs: "Bartender," "Long Stretch of Love" and "Freestyle." She was presented her honors by Kelsea Ballerini.

"Tonight was AWESOME!!!!" Scott writes on Instagram. "@SESACMusic, thank you for recognizing and championing the songwriter in every way ..."

Cary Barlowe, writer of hits such as Dustin Lynch's "Where It's At" and Florida Georgia Line's "Sun Daze," earned Songwriter of the Year. He also earned Country Performance Activity Awards for those two songs.

"You might not always have this 'move-mountain' lyric or a crazy idea, but sometimes it works," Barlowe says. "Sometimes it's either just stupid enough or just catchy enough, and sometimes it is a 'move-mountain' lyric. Every now and then, you'll accidentally spit something out and [think], 'Damn. That was pretty good.'"

Songwriter Richard Leigh, who penned classic hits such as "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" and "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," received SESAC's Songwriter Legacy Award. Reba McEntire and Crystal Gayle paid tribute to Leigh with performances of those two songs, respectively.

“This is the highest honor of my life,” said when accepting his award (quote via CMT). “I was so excited, I barely slept last night.”
