Tim McGraw is trading his Stetson for spy gear to get ready for his next big-screen adventure. Although Tim's latest movie, 'Country Strong' with Gwyneth Paltrow, doesn't open nationwide until January 7, the singer/actor is already jumping into his next role -- in an action flick that also stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.

Tim was promoting 'Country Strong' when he told movie site ComingSoon that he has signed on to the Daniel Espinosa-directed 'Safe House,' which will be set in Washington, D.C., and will feature Ryan as a young CIA agent working to get a criminal to a secure location. Although Tim wouldn't give many details about the film, he says he's playing a spy in the flick that will soon begin filming in South Africa and is currently scheduled to open in February 2012.

"I get to play actually something action-packed," Tim said during a press roundtable, reports Cinema Blend, another movie site. "Shoot people and all that stuff. I'm looking forward to all that stuff."

Tim's previous screen credits include 'Friday Night Lights' and 'The Blind Side.' His latest single, 'Felt Good on My Lips,' is currently climbing the charts.
