Tim McGraw has portrayed the dutiful husband in several films, including playing Sandra Bullock's other half in 'The Blind Side.' And although he enjoys playing the part of the solid, decent, good guy, he admits he wouldn't mind blowing a few people away from time to time. In his next role, in the Denzel Washington CIA action film 'Safe House,' he has the chance to do just that.

"It depends on the role," Tim explains to the Boston Herald of his decision to take certain films over others. "I wouldn't have played any of these parts if I hadn't liked the story. But I'm looking forward to killing someone. I love the dramatic, heavy, darker stuff; that's what I do best as an actor."

In his latest film, 'Country Strong,' Tim plays a husband who takes his wife out of rehab and pushes her back onstage. He says he understood his character's motivation, though it probably seemed harsh. "My approach was I don't think James is a bad guy. If you reevaluate his decision, he took her out of rehab and what was going on? She was having sex with the janitor. Was that good? From a husband's perspective, it wasn't a very good thing. Every decision he makes is what's good for Kelly. To me, James was the adult in the film, and that's the way I approached it. You can disagree with the things he did, but I don't think he ever was malicious."

Gwyneth Paltrow plays Tim's troubled wife Kelly in the film, and she admittedly found some inspiration in Tim's real-life spouse, Faith Hill. Tim admits Faith fights the same battles all working moms deal with, day in and out. "For Faith, being a mom is tough, and she's a good, hands-on mom," the singer/actor says of his better half. "She struggles with time to work on a career."

Although the music business is generally a younger man's game, Tim says he doesn't let Father Time get in his way when it comes to his life or career goals. With several feature films under his belt and more to come, he says he's only just begun his journey. "I'm just getting started. I've got way more ahead of me than behind me. If I look at the lifespan of my career, I'm at 30 percent."

Tim will hit the road again this spring on his Emotional Traffic tour with guests Luke Bryan and the Band Perry. 'Country Strong' opens in theaters nationwide on Friday (January 7).
