Surprise! Sarah Darling is a married woman.

The country singer, who announced her engagement to British graphic designer James Muriel in April, reveals they actually got married shortly after they made the announcement, but chose to keep their good news a secret, until now.

"We had dated long-distance for more than a year, so when he moved to Nashville we knew right away we wanted to be together as husband and wife," Darling explains to People magazine.

The couple enjoyed an intimate ceremony with just immediate family in attendance, the same weekend Muriel popped the question.

"We just decided very spontaneously to get married," the songstress explains. "Saying our vows beside the Atlantic had special meaning because it was what separated us, and now we came together beside it."

The newlyweds reveal they are planning a more elaborate celebration with their friends and extended family, scheduled for next year. "We're having a big wedding, the spring wedding, here in Nashville May 30," Darling tells CMT.

"Our wedding in Key West was perfect," she adds. "but taking our vows in front of everyone we love will be even more special."

The Iowa native says she has been envisioning her wedding day for awhile, but she isn't stressing about the details.

“I just always imagined something beautiful outside, almost like a Southern wedding with long wooden tables, a garden and lights hung," she tells The Boot. "But I’m definitely not one of those girls who freaks out or has to have it all a certain way.”

2013 has been a big year for the songstress. In addition to getting hitched, she is also releasing her holiday EP, 'Have a Merry Little Christmas Darling,' on Nov. 19. Pre-order the album here.
