Sara Evans and Hubby Jay Barker ‘Hang’ Tight on the Road

Sara Evans will join Rascal Flatts on their Flatts Fest tour when it kicks off June 18 in Bristow, Va. Joining Sara on the road will be her husband, Alabama football legend Jay Barker, and she says he enjoys traveling down the highway on a tour bus almost as much as she does.

"Jay loves the road, and that's something that I'm so grateful for," Sara tells The Boot. "He says it's just like when he was in the NFL, because you literally hang all day long in your room and just mentally prepare for your performance. He and I have that personality where we don't have to move all day. If we have my three children out there, which we pretty much always do -- and my kids are so like that, too -- they can hang all day out on the bus. They don't have to be entertained or running around all the time. They can just kind of hang. We love to go to catering, hang out, and then wait for the big show. Then after the show, [we] come back to the bus and watch a movie and just hang out."

Sara adds that there are times all seven of the children in their blended family will join them on the road. "His kids will come out some in the summer, and that's fun," she says. "They're really not used to it, and they think it's incredible to stand side-stage. They always want to come out on stage. They want me to introduce them."

To find someone who shares her passion for what she does, and how she does it night after night, makes Sara feel like the luckiest woman in the world. "I'm so blessed to have a partner like Jay, who just gets it. He gets what I do. He's not threatened by it. He just enjoys it," says the singer. "He's confident in his own career. He understands what it's like to be a celebrity. When we're in Birmingham, nobody notices me. They don't. I have to walk behind him and sing 'Born to Fly,' just to get attention. [laughs]"

Sara, who just debuted at the top of the country album charts with her latest album, 'Stronger,' will hit the stage once again when she performs at the Fremont Street Experience on April 1 in Las Vegas a couple of days before the ACM Awards.
