Morgan Wallen Paused for Reflection the First Time He Heard Himself on the Radio
Up-and-coming country star Morgan Wallen earned his first No. 1 hit at country radio with his single "Up Down" -- but before that song launched Wallen into mainstream success, he released another radio single, "The Way I Talk." That song is special to Wallen for a whole other reason: It was the first song of his that he ever heard played on country radio, an experience that caused him to stop and think about the long, hard road that led him to that moment, and about all of the people who helped him along the way.
Read on to learn about how Wallen reacted the first time he heard his song come on the radio, and how things have changed when he hears himself on country radio these days.
I had one single before "Up Down," [called "The Way I Talk"], and I heard it on the radio in Phoenix, when I was on a radio tour. So, you just automatically think about everything that's led up to that moment, and all the people that have supported you and been there with you and never really held you back in any way. I think my thoughts immediately went to that. So it was special.
Sometimes I [sing along when I hear it on the radio now]. But not usually. I'll turn it off if there's people in the car. If there's nobody in the car, I'll listen, but with other people, I don't want to be weird.
