Canaan Smith got quite a surprise on Friday (July 10): He was singing "Love You Like That" during his opening set at one of Dierks Bentley's 2015 Sounds of Summer Tour stops when Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae and other band members bombarded the stage to celebrate some really big news: his first No. 1 hit.

The tour was in Washington, D.C., and while Smith was lighting up the stage out front, Bentley and friends were getting ready backstage. The "Riser" hitmaker chronicled the happenings in a video that he posted on Twitter.

“Canaan Smith today has his first No. 1 ever with "Love You Like That,"” Bentley says in the video. "We’re gonna go run across the stage and have a little fun at his expense and celebrate the fact that he has his very first No. 1."

With that, the ever-hilarious Bentley pulled an owl's face over his head and said, "We're working. This is us working."

The country stars dressed in white jumpsuits with "#1" written all over them and joined Smith on stage midway through "Love You Like That." With big hugs and lots of cheers, it's safe to say that Smith was happily surprised. After the show he re-tweeted Bentley's tweet, adding, "Can't believe this is real."

When Smith first found out that he would be joining Bentley's summer tour, he was definitely excited for the trek.

“It will be wild … [Bentley] is one of my musical heroes,” he said at the time, noting that he saved the voicemail from Bentley inviting him to hit the road. “It’s going to be a blast … probably a lot of shenanigans and crazy boy things happening — poor Maddie & Tae!”

Smith's full-length debut record, Bronco, was released in June.
