Surprise! Without warning, Kenny Chesney has released a preview clip of one of the songs from his forthcoming album.

The country superstar posted a clip of a new song titled 'American Kids' to YouTube Monday morning (June 2), and let fans know the entire song is coming on June 20.

It's the first new music from Chesney since he released his most recent studio album, 'Life on a Rock,' in April of 2013. The singer -- who is one of the top live acts of the last 25 years, and usually tours extensively every summer -- took 2014 off from the road to focus on a new album.

“We have so much fun out there … with the fans, the other bands … It’s summer camp with guitars and a great sound system,” he says. “And when we hit that stage every night, and hear the crowd, that’s the best drug in the world. How you take a year off from that is hard; but music is the reason I do all of it, so right now, when I’m coming off an album that took me places I didn’t know I was gonna go, I think that’s what I should be exploring.”

He adds, “It’s a lot harder to find those songs than you’d think, and writing takes time — to think, to live, to be.”

So far there has been no official announcement in regard to a release date for Chesney's upcoming album, but the singer did post a cryptic message to Twitter last week, saying simply, "9.30.14." Though there is no confirmation that is the release date, it is a Tuesday, which is the day of the week new albums usually drop.
