She may not be old enough to gamble, but Katie Armiger certainly had a fun-filled weekend in Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards. Instead of hitting the Blackjack table, the 19-year-old songbird relaxed on a massage table as soon as she got to Sin City.

"The trip to the spa was pretty awesome, and then we went to ride the New York, New York rollercoaster!" she tells The Boot.

Brave girl!

After the harrowing experience on the roller coaster, it was on to shopping at to the beauty retailer, Sephora, which Katie says is the only place she really spent any money. "I just bought makeup while I was in Vegas. I love Sephora, and they have a great one there."

In addition to giving her credit card a little workout, Katie likes to take time to be a tourist in the cities where she has concerts.

"My favorite thing about doing shows is the traveling, and getting to go everywhere and see everything," the singer says. "We really try to get out in the city, if we do have time, to see the sights."

Katie's new single, 'Best Song Ever,' is quickly becoming a fan-favorite. "I wrote the song with Amanda Flynn and Bruce Wallace. We had been listening to all these songs that had the same theme -- horribly tragic but fairytale happy endings -- and we all agreed that is not how things end up. We decided to write a parody to all those songs, and that's how 'Best Song Ever' was born. A lot of my friends, and even me, always use the phrase 'this is the best whatever ever,' so we just used that phrase as the base for the song. It didn't take long to write."

Katie says she enjoys the role of tunesmith. "I like to write by myself, but I like to co-write too. They are both very different. Writing by yourself is a lot of times more intimate, but writing with a co-writer can be as well, and you get the chance to take different creative things away from your co-writer."

At her young age, Katie says her career to date has definitely had some twists and turns she didn't expect. "Everyone know music is up and down; it changes every day and evolves. There aren't any rules to it; every day is a learning process. The most surprising thing about it is you always think it's going to be easier than it is, and it's not."

Katie has a goal for herself this year: "I'm definitely a new artist, so it would be really cool to have a CMA award for their New Artist of the Year."

Now it's back to the daily grind for the singer from Sugarland, Texas. Her next show is April 8 at the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colo. Then she's at Colorado Cafe on April 14 in Watchung, N.J., followed by the Snorty Horse on April 15 in Columbia, Mo. She opens for Kellie Pickler the following night (April 16) in Prior Lake, Minn.
