Hot newcomer Kacey Musgraves scored an astonishing six nominations in the 2013 CMA Awards, but she wasn't exactly on the edge of her chair, waiting for the news. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter admits she slept right through the live reading of the nominations Tuesday morning (Sept. 10).

Musgraves was in bed, "reallly hung over" when the nominations were announced, she tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper.

“I knew that nominations were coming out but I didn’t know what to expect or whatever,” she says. “I didn’t have my alarm set to check on anything. Between my roommate yelling up at me from downstairs and [co-writer] Shane [McAnally] calling me, I think everyone else had already figured it out.”

Musgraves tied superstar Taylor Swift for the most nominations, including key categories Female Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Single of the Year. She's nominated not only for the runaway success of her debut album, 'Same Trailer Different Park,' and its lead single, 'Merry Go 'Round,' but also for her role in co-writing Miranda Lambert's 'Mama's Broken Heart.'

“Shane brought it to my attention that [Tuesday] commemorated a full year to the date since ‘Merry Go ‘Round’ had gone [to country radio],” Musgraves notes. “Just to see that perspective, it’s wild. It’s mind-blowing to me, just the things that can happen in a year.”
