Eric Church is going big for his 2017 tour: 50-plus stops, no opening acts, new ways to limit scalper access and more.

Announced Tuesday night (Aug. 9) just prior to Church's first of two shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, Church's 2017 Holdin' My Own Tour is set to begin on Jan. 13, 2017, in Lincoln, Neb., at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. The trek will run through late May, wrapping up with two back-to-back nights at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. For the first time, Church will not be bringing a support act on tour with him; instead, he will play two full sets, with an intermission in between.

“The way this album came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me — directly and swiftly. What I didn’t anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little, as this year was supposed to be spent writing.” Church says in a press release. “What this year’s open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows, down to the way they go on sale.”

Indeed, Church -- a longtime public opponent of ticket scalpers -- and his team are putting in place a new pre-sale process to help further fight scalpers and reward his fan club members: Fans must be registered for the Church Choir prior to the start of the pre-sale, and scalpers who pose as fans will be weeded out, a release reports. There will be no other pre-sales except for the Church Choir one, but more tickets have been set aside for that pre-sale, so fan club members will have a better shot at getting pre-sale tickets. Additionally, a system has been put in place to flag scalpers' orders and cancel them, and all tickets will be delivered on a delayed timeline, just days before each show, to make it harder for scalpers to sell off their tickets.

“In this era where growing inequality seems to be the norm, we wanted to do everything within our power to put the advantage back in the hands of true fans rather than those that take advantage of the system, and by extension our people,” explains John Peets, Church’s manager. “It was important to us to invest time into evaluating and redesigning the ticket buying process and build the technology to level the playing field.”

Fans have until 11:59PM CT on Aug. 23 to register for the Church Choir in order to gain access to the Holdin' My Own Tour pre-sale. The pre-sale will run from 11AM CT on Sept. 9 through 11:59PM CT on Sept. 11; fans will receive customized details via a text message. General onsale dates and times have not yet been revealed.
