Chris YoungLook up the word 'busy' in the dictionary these days and you'll likely find a photo of Chris Young next to it. This past weekend the singer performed on the opening dates of the JC Penny Presents Rascal Flatts Nothing Like This tour to more than 50,000 fans in Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga. Prior to that, he was in Las Vegas, Nev.; Portland, Ore.; Los Angeles; Springfield, Ill.; and Detroit, Mich. in what he says on his blog was "seven states in seven days."

Chris is understandably excited about being on the road with Rascal Flatts. Having just completed a major tour with Alan Jackson, which put him in front of thousands of avid traditional country fans, the singer sees the new trek as a great opportunity for him.

"A lot of people have asked me if I think my music will carry to the Rascal Flatts audience, and I tell them 'absolutely.' One of the things I'm most excited about is that the audiences are so different, and to me it will be kind of cool," Chris tells The Boot.

"My music is a change of pace from what Kellie Pickler and Rascal Flatts do, but it's all about great music. If it's great music people will like it. I'm doing basically the same set as I did with Alan, six songs, and I see it going really well. It's a great opportunity to get in front of that other part of the market and expose other people to what I do and what my music is like and sell some records."

Last Thursday Chris was presented with the Breakthrough Songwriter Award at the 22nd Annual MusicRow Awards. Voters were readers of MusicRow magazine, an industry trade paper.

Chris performs Wednesday night in Birmingham, Ala. for a sold-out audience at the 102.5 the Bull presents An Evening for St Jude, alongside David Nail, Josh Thompson and Jerrod Neimann. He has a few more dates, including fairs and casinos, before picking back up with Rascal Flatts and Kellie Pickler on the Nothing Like This tour for two nights at Harveys in Stateline, Nev. on July 16 - 17. He continues on the tour through September 19, when the trek ends in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
