Carrie Underwood took to Instagram to announce that she and husband Mike Fisher are expecting a child.

"In honor of 'Labor' Day, Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement," Underwood writes. "Their parents couldn't be happier..."

This will be Underwood and Fisher's first child, though the couple has been the subject of pregnancy rumors in the past. “As soon as you get married that happens,” Underwood says. The two wed in 2010.

The former 'American Idol' contestant says she isn't concerned about balancing a family with her career.

"I know it’s possible to be a great mother and to be on the road,” she says. “You don’t have to sacrifice that much. I see people like Martina [McBride] do it and Faith [Hill] do it. I know it’s a possibility. I just maybe need to sit down with them and say, "How DO you do it?'"

Underwood is due next spring. She is set to return as host of the CMA Awards in November and rumored to be this season's Super Bowl halftime show performer.
