Blake Shelton's new TV show, 'The Voice,' kicks off next month, and the country superstar says he's thrilled to be part of the reality talent search.

"There's a lot of reasons to want to be on a show like this," he tells the show's host, Carson Daly. "But the No. 1 reason, and this is the truth, is this show embraces the most important thing first about a singer, and that is whether or not they are a great singer. It's called 'The Voice,' and that's how you make it on the show. You don't make it on the show because you have a stupid dance you do, or you have an incredible sob back story that gets some sympathy. We don't know anything about these people. All we do is sit in a chair and listen to this person sing behind us and decide whether or not they're just a good singer or a great singer [and if they have] something special about their voice that's going to separate them and make them a star one day. We start from that and then we get into building and creating a career and momentum for this artist."

Blake joins Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine at the judges' table on the NBC show. But while he may be the reigning Country Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year, Blake insists he isn't only looking for Nashville's next big star.

"As the only country artist, the question I'm getting the most is 'Are you going to be listening for those country voices?' No I'm not. I'm going to be listening for just great singers and great music. Just like I find music for my iPod or listen to the radio."

'The Voice' premieres April 26. In addition to filming the TV show, Blake is also getting ready for his upcoming nuptials to Miranda Lambert. The pair will both appear at the ACM Awards this Sunday (April 3) in Las Vegas, where Blake, who is nominated for two awards, will co-host with Reba McEntire. The ACM Awards will air live from Las Vegas on Sunday at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
