When Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton announced their divorce in late July, fans were shocked. In the months since, the former couple has stayed relatively quiet about their decision to call it quits, but Shelton recently opened up about the divorce -- and, according to the "Sangria" singer, it happened "fast."

“In Oklahoma, it happens so fast. Like, Miranda and I didn’t have any kids, and we had a pre-nuptial agreement, whatever we had,” the Oklahoma native told The Bobby Bones Show on Wednesday (Sept. 23) (quote via ABC News). “Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was like a nine- or 10-day waiting period until it’s over."

And Shelton says that he and Lambert were glad it happened quickly because the news was able to break quickly, too.

“We knew if rumblings and rumors started coming out, they would just be that," he explains, "because by the time anybody knew anything, it was over. It was done."

Little is know about the former couple's reasons for divorcing, but Shelton and Lambert are adamant about one thing now: They're friendly.

“Our whole thing was, we are going to be cool about this, it is what it is," Shelton says. "We’re buddies.”

Their "buddy" status was apparent in a series of tweets at the end of July, when they bantered back and forth, ultimately bringing lots of publicity to mutual friend Ashley Monroe's new record.

Lambert and Shelton were married on May 14, 2011, in an outdoor wedding ceremony and dated for five years prior to saying their vows. The couple released a statement when they first announced their split: “This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
