Alan Jackson Wants to Be the Next … Alan Jackson
Alan Jackson, an 'American Idol' hopeful? THE Alan Jackson from Newnan, Ga.? Well, perhaps we should say the other Alan Jackson from Newnan.
A 17-year-old named Alan Jackson, also from country superstar Alan Jackson's hometown, will be featured on tonight's episode of the reality competition show, in a feature story about 'Idol' auditions in Jacksonville, Fla. The teen admits he had no interest in trying out for 'Idol,' even after friends tried to pressure him into it.
"I didn't think there was much of a chance," he tells the Times-Herald. "I didn't bother with it."
But Jackson's proud mom wouldn't take no for an answer and registered her son for auditions. He gave in and says he had quite an eye-opening experience in Jacksonville.
"Some were pretty bad, and some were pretty good," Jackson says of fellow 'Idol' hopefuls at the audition. "Some people didn't sing two notes before they were gone, and I saw them cut some people I thought were really good. It was kind of scary."
The teen Jackson fronts his own band, aptly called The Alan Jackson Band, and sings at church. But he says that if his fame stretches beyond Newnan, he knows he'll have to change his name.
We'll see if Jackson makes it through to Hollywood on tonight's episode of 'American Idol,' which airs at 8 PM ET on FOX.
