John Rich Uses ‘Celebrity’ for St. Jude’s

John Rich won praise for using his time on Donald Trump's NBC reality competition show, 'Celebrity Apprentice,' to work to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

When the next episode of the show is broadcast on March 13 at 9:00 PM ET, something tells us that John will still be fighting hard for his charity of choice.

"I am not here to get famous," John says on the episode. "I came here to raise money for St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Don't underestimate the country boy."

Two teams on last week's show -- one led by original 'Survivor' star Richard Hatch and the other led by model Niki Taylor -- worked to sell the most pizzas. John, part of the creative component of Richard's team, played his guitar and sang to lure potential pizza eaters to buy from their team.

"John Rich was working that crowd outside like a madman," said Richard, adding John's efforts for the losing team did bring in donations "like you wouldn't believe."

In a special video for NBC, John spoke passionately about why he worked to support St. Jude.

"It is the No. 1 cancer research hospital for children in the world. I have a kid. I think to myself, 'God forbid something happened to my son. Where would I take him?' I know exactly where I would take him. I would take him to St. Jude,'" says John, mentioning his 14-month old son, Cash. "It is a miraculous place not only for the patients they treat but for the research they do."

John went on to praise the "brilliant minds" of the researchers at St. Jude that devise treatments for cancer and work to eradicate it. Without their work, says John, the cancer would affect lives "100 times" more than it already does.

"I have been involved with St. Jude's for over 15 years," he says. "Since the first day I walked in with a guitar and sang to the kids being treated, it's something that has stayed with me and will continue to stay with me for the rest of my life."
