Blue and Black or White and Gold? Country Stars Weigh in on ‘The Dress’
Thursday evening (Feb. 26), a simple dress took the internet by storm, and even some country stars couldn't help by weigh in on the debate.
The debate began when Tumblr user known as swiked posted a photo of a dress from UK clothing company Roman Originals and asked a simple question: Is the dress blue and black, or is it white and gold?
The problem was, no one could agree.
Sibling trio the Band Perry was divided along gender lines: Kimberly Perry saw white and gold, but her brothers Neil and Reid Perry saw blue and black.
Lucy Hale had herself very confused after seeing both color combinations.
Josh Thompson added a completely new layer to the debate, unable to resist a chance to shout out his favorite football team.
Roman Originals' website, of course, reveals that the dress is, in fact, blue and black, but the explanation for why different people see different colors in the Tumblr user's photo has to do with lighting and the way your brain works.
“What’s happening here is your visual system is looking at this thing, and you’re trying to discount the chromatic bias of the daylight axis,” Bevil Conway, a neuroscientist who studies color and vision at Wellesley College, tells Wired. “So people either discount the blue side, in which case they end up seeing white and gold, or discount the gold side, in which case they end up with blue and black.”
Either way, The Boot agrees with Lauren Alaina's analysis of the whole situation.
