The Band Perry Postpone Delaware Show Over ‘Heightened Security Concerns’
The Band Perry's show scheduled for Sunday evening (July 3) at the Freeman Stage at Bayside in Selbyville, Del., was postponed due to security concerns, after two men made threatening comments.
A statement from the Freeman Stage explains that "[a] security concern came to our attention early in the evening," shortly before TBP were scheduled to take the stage. A further update explains that "two male subjects made alarming statements to an employee at the Welcome Center in the Bayside community in regards to the performance of the Band Perry."
"After this news was brought to our attention, we met with local and state authorities as well as artist management to make the best decision for the safety of all," the statement continues -- which meant postponing the band's concert until Aug. 17. Refunds will be available for ticketholders who are unable to make the rescheduled date; ticketholders will receive an email on Tuesday (July 5) with more information.
The postponement was announced as concertgoers were getting ready to enter the venue, according to the Herald Courier. About 2,400 fans were expected to attend, per the Delaware News Journal.
"You always want to make the right decision, and that might not be the popular decision," says Patti Grimes, executive director of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, which runs events at the Freeman Stage. The venue also noted on Facebook that they have a safety plan in place and used it during this incident.
Officials have not reported exactly what the two men said -- “This is an ongoing and active investigation, and so as to not jeopardize the investigation, specific details will not be released," says Delaware State Police spokesperson Jeffrey Hale -- but they have released a photo of the pair. The suspects, one of whom turned himself in on Monday (July 4), are described by police as between 20 and 30 years old; as seen in the picture, one was wearing a green T-shirt, dark blue or black shorts and sneakers, while the other was in a purple T-shirt, blue shorts and flip-flops. The Perrys recently signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and UMG Nashville, following their split from Big Machine. They've been revealing some new music at their recent shows. The band will soon head Rio de Janiero, Brazil, as their single “Live Forever” was selected as Team USA’s official song for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The Band Perry's next scheduled concert is on Tuesday night in Lewiston, N.Y.
