Since winning season 10 of American Idol, Scotty McCreery has played to enthusiastic crowds from St. Louis, where he sang the "Star Spangled Banner" to open last year's World Series, to the Philippines. He doesn't necessarily need the "backup plan" that most aspiring singers are told to develop, but that won't stop him from furthering his education. Next fall, Taste of Country reports, the 18-year-old superstar will attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Scotty was accepted to all four of the schools (East Carolina, Belmont University and Tennessee State being the others) he applied to, and while he's reportedly considering transferring in two years to someplace in Nashville, he might have some sentimental attachment to NCSU. After all, it's his dad's alma mater.

The news comes days after Scotty's label presented him with a plaque marking platinum sales of his debut album, Clear As Day. It'll look great hanging in his dorm.
