Ronnie Dunn’s New Single Features Kix Brooks [LISTEN]
Ronnie Dunn's new single, "Damn Drunk," features none other than his Brooks & Dunn partner Kix Brooks -- but the singer is telling his fans not to read too much into Brooks' guest vocals.
"Damn Drunk" was written by Liz Hengber, Alex Kline and Ben Stennis, and produced by Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts. As Dunn sings "If you were on the other side of the world / I’d spin that thing right back around just to get to you, girl / I love the way you always go and mess me up / If you were a whiskey, girl, I'd be a damn drunk," Brooks -- "my long-time compadre in crime," as Dunn calls him -- adds harmony vocals.
“This is one of those tunes that I immediately gravitated to,” Dunn says in a press release. “I listened to hundreds of songs while writing a few myself. Jay and I took it into the studio, and it went to another level. Witnessing a song do that is magic; it is one of the most gratifying dynamics of music for me."
Still, "Damn Drunk" isn't a hint that new Brooks & Dunn music is on the way; rather, Dunn tells Rolling Stone Country, Brooks simply liked the tune and asked to sing on it.
"He said, 'Let me sing a harmony part on it.' I said, 'Are you kidding me?' So I said, 'Alright, come on in. Let's give it a shot,'" Dunn recalls. "It's that simple. There is no grand scheme to anything."
Brooks & Dunn split up in September of 2010, but there's no animosity between the two artists. In fact, they've been performing in Las Vegas with Reba McEntire as of late.
