Pistol Annies Are Hot Messes in ‘Stop Drop and Roll One’ [LISTEN]
The Pistol Annies embrace the "hot mess" that lives inside each one of us in their new song "Stop Drop and Roll One." Readers can press play above to listen to the rollicking new tune.
Co-written by Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, the lyrics of "Stop Drop and Roll One" aren't trying to hide any of the crazy, to borrow a phrase from a previous Lambert hit. "We're right on the brink / Burned out like the prom queens," the trio sings in the song's chorus. "It's all mirrors and smoke rings ..."
There's humor in the Pistol Annies' brand of brashness, too: "I don't really care how this phony-ass fairytale ends / I just hope that we're leavin' this honky-tonk covered in men," goes one line, followed later by "Where in the hell is my bra? / This hurts a lot more than the last time we did Mardi Gras." Don't lie: We've all had a night (or a few) like that.
"Stop Drop and Roll One" will appear on the Pistol Annies' forthcoming new album Interstate Gospel. It's one of 14 tracks on the project; thus far, the trio has also shared the songs "Interstate Gospel," "Got My Name Changed Back" and "Best Years of My Life."
Pistol Annies will celebrate the release of Interstate Gospel -- which is due out on Nov. 2 and is their first new album since 2013 -- with a trio of shows in Nashville, New York City and Los Angeles. Prior to officially announcing their new record, the Pistol Annies had been teasing new music for months, dropping hints in interviews and on social media, as well as appearing together at some of Lambert's shows.
