The Pistol Annies are getting closer to releasing a new album after a five-year wait. Miranda Lambert says she and bandmates Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe are on track to share their new project this fall.

"Something about being together makes us a force to be reckoned with. We can get more raw and rugged than we would alone," Lambert tells Time of working with her Pistol Annies bandmates. "We’re set for a fall release for a record. I think it’s the best writing we’ve ever done. We’ve lived a lot of life since our last record. I think it’s three girls telling our story very bravely."

All three Pistol Annies members have dropped not-so-subtle hints about progress on a new project over the last few months; in fact, Presley recently shared that the new album was done and ready to go in late July. Monroe and Presley have also been joining Lambert onstage at some of her 2018 tour stops, including recent shows on on the 2018 Bandwagon Tour, which Lambert is co-headlining with Little Big Town.

Lambert, Monroe and Presley have all said that Pistol Annies fans can expect some of their best songwriting yet on this new record. Lambert says the forthcoming work captures the sometimes-muted -- but starting-to-rise-again -- perspective of women in country music.

"We want to know we’re not alone in all of our issues, you know?" Lambert says. "I mean, I do [want to hear more female artists]. I want to feel like someone’s telling my story."

The Pistol Annies haven't released any new music since 2013's Annie Up. After that album's release, the band abruptly called off their tour and shifted focus to their individual solo careers.
